Food Buying Groups

Did you ever think about buying your supplies as part of a larger group?

Joining a Food Buying Group is an alternative that is available to collective kitchens and one that can be advantageous!

There are more than 40 food buying groups in Quebec. Like collective kitchens, these groups are places to share ideas and to learn about and promote democracy, respect, dignity, empowerment, autonomy, solidarity, social justice and equality.

A Food buying group is...

People pooling their resources together to improve their standard of living, eat healthy food and foster cooperation and a sense of community and citizen empowerment.

Did You Know that Collective Kitchens Already Participate in Food Buying Groups?

This is what the participants think:

Thanks to our food buying group, we…
  • Can plan our cooking days to suit our needs. We don’t have to wait for the circulars.
  • Are free to choose our recipes!
  • Can buy the quantities we want, without the limits imposed by food market prices.
  • Can obtain top quality produce.
  • Can maximize our purchases in one location.
  • Benefit from better prices year round.
  • Enjoy greater buying power as a larger group.
  • Support local merchants and producers.
  • Taste and discover foods that we couldn’t otherwise afford (roasts, filet mignon, quail, duck, many kinds of nuts, and Quebec cheeses, etc.).
